Potential Research Project

The three-month school holiday gives students plenty of time to do anything they wish to do, like traveling around some counties with friends, doing an internship or part-time job in a big company, learning some skills or music instrument they never thought of, taking summer school to catch up with peers, and so on. I would like to find out what are students’ choices could be and the differences between gender, nationality, course, year of study, etc. Therefore, I can find out what kind of role the school is playing, how the school can interact more with students and provide students with more opportunities to make their holidays meaningful, and I can find out whether there is a relationship with their future plans. Hence, I would like to conduct a survey regarding ‘what do students usually do in their summer holiday?’.

The survey contains questions as following:
1. Get the basic information of participator, like gender, nationality, course, year of study, etc.
2. Multiple-choice question of what things they did and what they plan to do in summer holidays, like doing internship or part-time job, traveling, studying in summer school, doing research or school projects, participating in school activities, or staying at home.

3. What are the opinions of students of current summer holidays, too long or too short, or do they want to change the time period of the holiday?
4. What information and services do the students need the school to offer for them to plan for their holidays?

5. How satisfied are the students with what services the school offers now?
6. What the students plan to do after graduation? Like go further study, go to work, go a
broad, etc.

This survey is about the students’ plan of summer holidays. In order to collect the information of students’ opinions, an attitudinal survey is needed to study this topic. They can help me to find out whether the students are satisfied with the current condition, and provide the school useful suggestions and directions of improvement.

Hi, Hanbin, finally your post is up.. Next time please be punctual, k? haha.

Back to your choice of topic for our research project, I think it is feasible to study and conduct. This is because I think the many students may have differents activities for their long long holiday, but some may just waste their three months of holiday by doing nothing because they cannot find any activity that interest them. And also, I think there are too few internship opportunities provided to Science students compared to Engineering and Business students. Perhaps this survey is a good chance to let our faculty's dean office and NUS career center aware of this situation and make some appropriate improvements.

And also, some students might be interested to take one or two modules during special terms so that they can catch up with peers but they cannot afford the high prices of the modules. These might be one of the matters that we wish to let the registrar's office know.

hello hanbin!

this is definitely a superb topic to talk about, and we can chat about it all night long.

but you forgot that in a survey there must be no assumptions. in this case, you are assuming that all student live the same lifestyles, and brought up the same way. the assumption is unacceptable in this research as it will not bring you a definite conclusion.

i'd be glad if you can alter the qn though! ur toopic is interesting nevertheless. :)
